The 9th China Synergy Programme for Outstanding Youth (CSP9) was held between 1 – 17 July 2008, when 212 outstanding Chinese students from 18 countries and regions visited Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Xian, Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai. Delegates received the certificates of participation on 16 July at the Closing Ceremony, and said farewell to each other after the fruitful and meaningful trip. Throughout the 17 days delegates were able to see and experience China by themselves, and to live and learn with their fellows from all over the world. This trip helped to reduce the distance between delegates and their motherland, and also through the trip they were able to understand more about the past, present and future of China. Mr. Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, received the CSP9 delegation on 11 July at the Great Hall of the People. He reviewed the pathway and achievements China been through in the thirty years of openness and reform. He also reviewed the challenges China has faced since early 2008, and shared with delegates how local and overseas Chinese have devoted their efforts in the struggle to those challenges. He encouraged the CSP delegates to pass on and inherit the Chinese tradition, and be a supporter of motherland's development.

On 3 July, the CSP9 delegates took part in the Commissioning Ceremony which was officiated by the Chief Executive of HKSAR, the Honourable Donald Tsang. They also had the valuable chance to meet with the presidents of Hong Kong participating universities and many distinguished guests. The delegates were encouraged to broaden their vision and take initiative in building friendship during the trip. With new perspective and network obtained would they be able to learn more about China and Chinese culture.
